Recipe Scaler
Paste any recipe, choose Half, Double or Triple, or type your own multiplier, and every quantity is rescaled for you. Changed amounts are highlighted so you can check them, and the rest of the recipe stays as you pasted it.
How to Halve or Double a Recipe
- Paste the ingredient list, or the whole recipe, into Original recipe.
- Under Scale by, tap Half, Double or Triple.
- Tap Scale recipe.
- Read Scaled by and the count of quantities changed, check the highlighted amounts, then tap Copy recipe to take the result with you.
To try another size, tap Change scale. To paste a different recipe, tap Start over.
Scale a Recipe Up or Down by Any Amount
Type a number in Or type your own: a decimal such as 1.5 or a fraction such as 1/4, above 0 and up to 1,000. That covers a quarter batch, a recipe for 6 instead of 4 (1.5) or a party-sized batch. Fractions in the result stay in kitchen fractions for cups and spoons unless you typed decimals.
What Gets Scaled and What Stays the Same
The tool scales:
- numbers next to units, such as cups, tbsp, tsp, oz, lb, g, kg, ml, l, dl, cl, pinch, cloves, cans, sticks and eggs
- numbers at the start of an ingredient line
- fractions (1/2, 1 1/2, ½, ¾), decimals and ranges such as 2-3 tbsp
- Serves, Makes or Yield lines, rounded to a whole number
It leaves alone times, temperatures, pan sizes in inches or cm, step numbers, percentages and anything in parentheses, so a (14-oz) can stays a 14-oz can. If it cannot find a quantity it says No quantities found.
Convert a Recipe Between Metric and Imperial
Open Advanced and switch on Convert between metric and imperial to change units while you scale. Cups, spoons, ounces and pounds become millilitres, grams and kilograms; metric becomes cups, spoons, ounces and pounds. It uses US kitchen sizes (1 cup is 240 ml).
A cup is a volume, and the tool cannot know what you are measuring. 1/2 cup butter becomes 120 ml, not grams. Counted things such as eggs and cloves are never converted.
Halving Recipes with Eggs
Halving 3 eggs gives 1 1/2 eggs, and the tool leaves it that way. Beat an egg and use about half of it, roughly 2 tablespoons for each large egg.

Recipe Scaler FAQ
How do I halve a recipe?
Paste the recipe into Original recipe, tap Half under Scale by and tap Scale recipe. Every quantity that changed is bolded in the result, so you can check each line before cooking.
How do I double a recipe?
Paste the recipe, tap Double and tap Scale recipe. For other sizes tap Triple, or type a multiplier such as 1.5 or 1/4 under Or type your own.
How do I halve a recipe that calls for 3 eggs?
The tool halves the number as written, so 3 eggs becomes 1 1/2 eggs. It does not round counted items for you. The usual kitchen fix is to beat one egg, measure out about half of it by volume (roughly 2 tablespoons per large egg) and add that to the 1 egg you already have.
How do I scale a recipe up or down?
Choose Half, Double or Triple, or type any multiplier above 0 and up to 1,000 under Or type your own, for example 1.5 to make half as much again, or 1/4 for a quarter batch. The tool multiplies every quantity by that number.
What does the recipe scaler change, and what does it leave alone?
It scales numbers next to units (cups, tbsp, tsp, oz, lb, g, kg, ml, l, dl, cl, pinch, cloves, cans, sticks, eggs), numbers at the start of an ingredient line, fractions, decimals, ranges such as 2-3 tbsp, and Serves, Makes or Yield lines (rounded to a whole number). It leaves times, temperatures, pan sizes, step numbers, percentages and anything in parentheses, such as a (14-oz) can, unchanged.
How do I convert a recipe to metric?
Open Advanced and switch on Convert between metric and imperial. Cups, spoons, ounces and pounds become millilitres, grams and kilograms, and metric quantities become cups, spoons, ounces and pounds. It uses US kitchen sizes, with 1 cup as 240 ml.
Why did 1/2 cup of butter become 120 ml and not grams?
Converting a volume to weight needs the ingredient's density, and the tool only sees the number and the unit. So a cup of anything converts to millilitres, never to grams. For baking by weight, look up the gram weight of that ingredient separately.
Is my recipe uploaded or saved?
No. The scaling runs in your browser and your recipe is not stored or sent anywhere. No account is needed.
