File Font Finder

Drop a PDF, SVG, HTML or CSS file on the box above and this PDF font finder lists every font the file uses and every color it sets, each with a count. Colors show a swatch and a hex code. Select any font name or color to copy it. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.

How to find the fonts used in a PDF

  1. Select Choose a file or drop it here (or drop the file on the box) and pick your PDF. It can be up to 15 MB.
  2. Wait a moment while the pages are read. For a long PDF the progress line counts the pages.
  3. Open the Fonts used list. Each name is a font a page actually selects, sorted A to Z, with subset tags like ABCDEF+ stripped.
  4. Select a name to copy it. A toast confirms what was copied. Use Try another file to scan a different one.

The Colors found list holds the fill and stroke colors set on the PDF’s pages, converted to hex. A PDF that is only a scan has neither, so you will see an empty state instead.

What it reads in a CSS, HTML or SVG file

For text formats the tool scans the source itself. It finds every font-family declaration and every font-family="..." attribute, splits each list into single names and removes duplicates regardless of capitalization. Generic keywords such as serif, sans-serif and monospace are dropped, so the list holds only named fonts.

That makes it a quick way to see which fonts a stylesheet or an exported SVG depends on before you hand it over, or to list the typefaces in a page you saved as HTML.

How colors are listed

Colors are read as hex (#rgb, #rgba, #rrggbb, #rrggbbaa), rgb(), rgba(), hsl() and hsla(). Every one is converted to a 6-digit uppercase hex code such as #1F5EFF, and alpha is dropped, so the same color written three ways appears once.

Written in the fileListed as
#1f5eff#1F5EFF
rgb(31, 94, 255)#1F5EFF
#1f5effcc#1F5EFF
red (a named color)not read

What it cannot tell you

To pull the words out of a PDF, use PDF Text Extractor. To pick a color from a photo, use Image Color Picker. To check whether two colors from your list are readable together, try Color Contrast Checker.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what font is used in a PDF?

Drop the PDF on the box above. The “Fonts used” list shows every font the pages select, such as Arial-BoldMT or Helvetica, with the six-letter subset prefix (like ABCDEF+) removed. Select a name to copy it. The whole file is read on your device and nothing is uploaded.

Can I extract colors from a PDF?

Yes. The “Colors found” list shows the fill and stroke colors that the PDF’s pages set, each as a 6-digit hex code with a swatch. Select one to copy it. Colors that live inside embedded photos are not listed, because those are pixels rather than color settings; for a photo, use the Image Color Picker instead.

Can I find the font in an SVG file?

Yes. Drop the SVG and the tool reads its font-family attributes and any font-family declared in its style blocks, then lists each font name once. Text that an exporter converted to outlines has no font name left to read, so it will not appear.

Can I extract fonts from a CSS file?

You get the font names, not the font files. The tool reads every font-family declaration, splits each list into single names and drops generic keywords such as serif, sans-serif and monospace. The font files themselves are not pulled out of the stylesheet.

How do I check if fonts are embedded in a PDF?

This tool lists the fonts the pages use but does not report whether each one is embedded in the file. Use it to learn the names, then check embedding in your PDF editor’s document properties.

Does it give me the font file from a PDF?

No. It lists font names only. Once you have the name, you can look the font up or install it from the foundry or a font library.

Why does my PDF show no fonts or colors?

A scanned or image-only PDF is just pictures, so no text fonts or color settings exist to read. You will see “No fonts or colors found”. Run it through Scanned PDF to Text if you need the words instead. A password-protected PDF cannot be read at all.

Why isn’t a color like red in the Colors found list?

Only color values written as hex (#rgb, #rrggbb and the versions with alpha), rgb(), rgba(), hsl() and hsla() are read. Named colors such as red or tomato are not, and alpha (transparency) is dropped, so every result is a plain 6-digit uppercase hex code like #1F5EFF.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser and never sent to a server, so a client brand guide or unpublished design stays on your device.
